In Detroit, the crowd was comprised almost entirely of otherwise homeless veterans who, despite
having been let down by their government, still waved the American flag and enthustically recited the Pledge of
Allegiance. After the rally, one formerly homeless veteran told MAJ Hampton that he asked his son if he would
consider joining the Army like his father. His son replied, "I don't know Pop? They didn't take very good care of you!"
The father went on to say, "In order to have a strong country, we have to have a strong military. To have a
strong military, we have to take care of our veterans. The young people are watching!" Pictured above, MAJ
Hampton salutes the attendees of the Detroit, Michigan rally.
